Posting Pictures of Your Keys Online
It’s a common photo-op for new homeowners. Post a picture of you with your new set of keys in front of your new home. This practice is also popular among thieves. There are apps and computer programs that can zero in on a picture of a key and easily replicate it. This puts your home security at risk. Forgetting to Keep Up With Appearances
If you normally leave your blinds or drapes open during the day and close them the day you leave for vacation, that could be a calling card for burglars that no one is home. “I recommend a mix of open, partially open, and close,” says Emily Long, safety expert atSafeWise. “Open blinds that provide full views of TVs, computers, and other valuables can tempt burglars, while partially open blinds provide privacy and security as well as let interior light out, giving the illusion that you are home.”

So, pet owners, keep your pet doors secure as well.

Burglars hate attention. That's the main reason why burglar alarms and sirens are effective on deterring thieves. Statistics show that 46% of burglars would tend to avoid homes with alarm systems or sirens.
2. There's suspicious people in the neighborhood, showing unusual behavior. If you see strangers taking pictures of your house or lingering around, it could be a warning sign of being targeted.
If you use smart lighting functionality through your home security system to make it seem as though someone is home, this may deter a burglar. If you simply leave your lights on all day and all night, you could do the opposite.
Burglary warning signs can be found on your house, in your yard, and sometimes even around the neighborhood. Burglars draw these marks on the front or back doors. Often you can see the drawings on the stairs or on your porch. Sometimes they might leave them on your driveway.

Our best deterrent for burglars is the presence of an outdoor security camera. Having cameras mounted around your exterior home is a great way to prevent burglars from entering your home! This immediately makes it look as though burgling your home will be more of a risk.
You can dramatically improve the security of your home by taking steps such as trimming overgrown shrubs outside your property and leaving the TV on when you're not home. The aim is to deter burglars so your home is less likely to become a target.
Doors are the most common entry points for burglars.
