Maya Jama meets King Charles and Queen Camilla

King Charles was joined by a star-studded line up at Buckingham Palace yesterday as a series of celebrities descended for a very special garden party.

The Creative Industries Garden Party was held by the Royal Family to honour the arts, making it far less traditional and formal than their usual garden parties.

It was not only celebrities such as Maya Jama, Bradley Walsh, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Tess Daly in attendance, as invites were also extended to those who work behind the scenes.

However there was one thing missing that made this garden party stand out from those usually hosted by the Firm in the spring and summer months.

Due to the more arty nature of the party there were no mayoral chains, military uniforms or fancy hats which normally define an event attended by the usual civic workers and public representatives.

The party was organised in tandem with the Department of Culture, Media and Sport and was brought together by Culture Secretary Lucy Frazer.

She told the Daily Mail: "They are part of our soft power. When many people think about Britain, they think about the Royal Family, cups of tea and our creative titans. So we're bringing them all together in one afternoon in one space."

When asked about approaching the King to organise the event she said: "I know that he and the Royal Family are huge fans and supporters of the creative industries. I asked him whether he would be willing to do a small event. He was very receptive to the idea. In fact, he took it one step further."

The King and Queen Camilla eagerly greeted their 4,000 guests, indulging in some rather more cheeky topics of conversation than they would normally do.

His Majesty chatted with Love Island host Maya Jama, as she introduced herself: "I host Love Island. I don't know if you've watched it? It's a reality dating show."

The King then wittily retorted: "There's one born every minute", to which the 29-year-old said: "There is yeah."

She also apologised for their last meeting, explaining: "Nice to meet you. Well, I've actually met you before, a long time ago. About something with the Princes’ Trust and I touched you. I wasn’t supposed to. This time I won't."

The Queen also found time to compliment Rosie Huntington-Whiteley on her new range of underwear with M&S, something the model said she was "very touched" by.

She would no doubt have been excited to chat with Strictly Come Dancing host Tess Daly as it is known she is a big fan of the Saturday night show.

The garden party has been viewed as another positive sign that the King is on the mend following his cancer treatment as he has a packed schedule for this summer.
