Life was so empty. Sean’s days felt as if they had no purpose anymore. Sean knew Dignan messed up, but he still missed him immensely. He stared at his phone most days. One day, he got a message from a familiar name. HIVEMIND. He sat there pondering why he recognized the name. Then, he remembered. It was the company Dignan worked for. He remembered Dignan mentioning it once or twice. He opened the message. It read:
hey dude, its hivemind riley. i was wondering if you wanted to come on the show? we play music games it would be fun (also my co-host is very fond of you so he would love it)
Co-host. Immediately Sean thought of Dignan, but he also remembered that there was another member.
“It’s like we’re a three-headed hydra, me, Riley, and Graydon, and Grant’s our tail.”
Sean needed something fun to do, so he accepted. Maybe Graydon would be there instead of Dignan. Or maybe, Sean would be able to rekindle things with Dignan. That’s what he really wanted.

Sean arrived at the studio on Thursday. He opened the door to see Riley, waiting for him. He was wearing a hat that read FISH WANT ME, WOMEN FEAR ME. He shook Sean’s hand and led him to the yellow room. As they were walking, all Sean could think of was if Dignan was going to be there or not. Sure enough, he was. He sat with his feet crossed on the desk. His normally careless eyes softened once he saw Sean. Riley could clearly sense the tension, so Sean forced out a “Hello”.
Sean sat down between Riley and Dignan. They bantered for a few minutes. Then it came to Sean’s attention that Grant, the man behind the camera was wearing a beautifully steamed Stetson and an elegant pinstripe suit. Sean admired his sense of style. They then started filming.
“What’s up, you’re watching Hivemind, the most whimsical show on the internet. My name is Riley and as always I’m joined by my mythical co-host Dignan. And we are lucky to be joined by famous Detroit rapper, Big Sean!”
“Pleasure to be here,” Sean said awkwardly.
“Today we’re looking at some of the stranger things artists have said. This is,” Dignan nudged him to join in. “Guess the Rapper from the Weird Lyric!”
“If you haven’t seen the other episodes, this is how it’s gonna work. We’re gonna read some weird lyrics and guess which rapper it was that said them. One point for each one we get right. Me vs. Dignan vs. Sean vs. YOU. Quincy from Philidelphia.”
They played the game for a while. They were on the fifth question now. The lyrics read “I’m an animal/Half man, half mammal”. They turned around their boards. Riley and Sean both answered Jay Z. However Dignan answered Logic.
“This is Jay Z!” Grant said.
“f*ck” Dignan yelled. He started rambling in his anger. Sean placed his hand on Dignan’s thigh. It was a simple gesture, but it got Dignan to calm down. Riley raised an eyebrow, but didn’t comment on the situation. He blinked a couple times and shook his head to move on.
The next question was “I’m Quagmire, I f*ck hoes, my cashflow, I giggity-git it” Sean knew the answer right away. He let out a laugh as he wrote down the answer. They flipped their boards. Riley answered Lil Wayne. Dignan answered Bob Dylan. It was obviously a throwaway guess, but it got a laugh. Sean’s board said himself. Both of the men around him opened their eyes to look at him.
“This is Big Sean!”
Sean nodded his head in a state of embarrassment.
“Dude, you said this?” Riley said in disbelief.
“Well, I’m not proud of it.” He then turned his head to face Grant. “You, Grant, are a sick, sick, man.” He laughed through it so it was obvious he wasn’t serious.
They finished filming. Overall, Sean enjoyed the experience. Riley and Grant were both nice people, but it was most refreshing to see Dignan again. He felt like the man Sean knew, not the drunk maniac from that night. Sean didn’t go home for a bit. He talked with the boys, but most of his attention was directed to Dignan. Eventually, Grant and Riley had to leave. Sean still stayed. Both Dignan and Sean sat on the desk.
“I’m sorry,” Dignan said out of the blue. “For what I did that night.”
“It’s okay. Just don’t ever do that sh*t again.”
“Wait. Does this mean that we’re-”
“I mean, I know I want it. If you do, then yeah, we are” Sean smiled.
“Yes! I do want that. I just…” He trailed off. “I understand why you burnt that bridge. I just didn’t think you would want to rebuild it.”
“Of course I would.” Sean put his arm around Dignan and rested his head on his shoulder. After a few minutes of sitting in that position, Dignan suggested they go outside. They found a bench to sit at. They looked at the busy streets. They reminded Sean of the day he saw Dignan for the first time, running through the traffic. But this time they were side by side. They stared into each other's eyes. Then, their lips interlocked, without a care in the world. They pulled away for air. Dignan started to giggle.
“I love you. I love you so much.” Dignan said once he got a hold of himself.
“Me too.”
“I don’t ever want to leave again.”
“Me neither,” Sean said as they pulled back into another kiss.
