Is it bad to wear a felt cowboy hat in the rain? ›

A light rain shower, drizzle, even a little snow will not destroy most felt hats. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are not good for felt hats. Straw hats (made of natural fibers) should NEVER be worn in the rain.

If you're planning on being in heavy rain for an extended period of time, it could do some damage + cause the hat to shrink or lose its shape. If you get caught in the rain in a felt hat, pat the water off, leave it on a flat surface brim facing down + let it dry.

Some wool felt hats are produced to be 'water resistant' or 'crush-proof', and will indeed be so for a certain amount of time.

Technically, the felt cowboy hat season begins after Labor Day. However, felt hats are often worn for formal occasions.
