How long does foreign currency order take? ›

With standard shipping, orders generally arrive within 1-3 business days. (Allow 2-3 additional business days for orders shipped to Alaska or Hawaii.) Orders shipped via overnight delivery should arrive the next business day. (Overnight shipping to Hawaii and Alaska cannot be guaranteed.)

Typically, the least busy times of the week are Mondays, mid-week and the weekend (excluding Friday). These days have the lowest number of transfers in the week, so you might expect to see less fluctuation in the mid-market rate.

Many banks offer currency exchange to their customers. Though there may be a small fee if you exchange less than a certain amount, your bank or credit union will almost always be the cheapest place to exchange currency.

Customers with a Bank of America checking or savings account can order up to USD$10,000 in foreign currency online over 30 days, whether that purchase is made in one or several transactions. Orders up to USD$1,000 in foreign currency can be delivered to your account address over a 30 day period.

Typically you can access the currency exchange webpage through your bank's website or mobile app, or by phone. From there, you usually enter the currency you need, add the desired amount, select the pickup method and place your order.

Shipping can take up to 3 business days in most cases, so be sure to allow enough time to receive your cash before your trip. Currency purchases less than $200 have a $10 shipping fee, and amounts greater than $200 USD are shipped free to the branch location.

Many U.S. banks will exchange USD for foreign currencies without charging a fee, but there are often stipulations. For instance, Bank of America customers can exchange foreign currencies for free, but only on orders of $1,000 or more. Otherwise, the bank charges a $7.50 delivery fee for foreign currency orders.
